Our Philosophy
How might design carry a meaningful existence in the world of ever-increasing consumption?
In our diction, it means creators that are driven with awareness to craft with the fullest intention. Intentions that question the future, challenge the status quo, drive changes to a better direction and bequeath it to the next generations. Intentions that we view as necessary to put progress towards a better future in motion.
As a creator of objects in the Anthropocene, our designs are merely those intentions formulated in artistic response towards our process of discovering the new meaning of life, truth, and values. The response involves the harmony between emotional and artistic expression, with respect to materials and nature, and understanding of human needs towards a functioning object that fills physiological needs as well as the motivation to appreciate life.
Our design and artistic decision is a language that embodies almost two decades of wisdom from design experimentations, being awakened to the state of the world, and the great potential of Indonesia's natural and cultural resources.
We believe language forms a behavior and then a mindset. Ours equips AlvinT to create contemporary Indonesian furniture pieces with a global appeal that ignites conversation on an alternative way of living.
And just as language is ever-expanding along with its dissemination through use, we welcome anyone that wants to outfit themselves with it.
We believe that art and design is an expression of our thoughts, a way to contemplate and become connected to our surroundings and living conditions.
Our Story
Founded in 2006, alvinT is a Jakarta-based furniture brand started by Alvin Tjitrowirjo that amalgamates Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage and artisanal approach with contemporary sensibilities. Authenticity remains the driving force behind our innovation.
While we revere tradition, we would like our products to stand as a testament of character in an increasingly homogenized world.
As much as design should be seen,
it should also be felt.
All of our products are hand-made by skilled local artisans because we believe in delivering honest products that inspire genuine engagement, transcending the tethers of trend and time.
The same hands also crafted pieces for internationally-renowned furniture brands.
Together with local artisans, we would like to establish Indonesia’s presence as the hub of furniture-making where innovation and creativity can flourish.
