Angan
Easily swayed, seemingly fragile, and beautifully confining. Angan is a conceptual piece as well as a functional object designed for “Alamak!” Exhibition in Museum Triennale, Milan, 2016. Through the design of this hanging shelf, we make a critical inquiry on the way Indonesian is often in limbo when deciding on how their tradition should manifest in their creation. Especially when modernization is taken for granted.
To communicate our argument, Angan is composed of the fragility of stacking glass panes, held in place with vertical natural rattan beams which are tied with gleaming brass and tan leather. The whole composition of forms, balance, materials and the way it’s crafted is meant to present the viewer of Angan with a dilemma we genuinely felt as Indonesian creators.
