Experience “Art of the Senses” at Jia Curated Kiosks 2024

For four days in August, Jia Curated Kiosks (JCK) returned to Bali Festival Park, a site once abandoned for over 20 years and now repurposed and reimagined. In its third edition, JCK has become a gathering place for creative minds—a space where designers, artisans, and visitors come together to experience craft in all its forms.

The third edition’s theme, In Process, explored the journey of creation—how objects, spaces, and materials take shape over time. As part of this, Art of the Senses invited visitors to experience design beyond the visual, reconnecting with touch, sound, taste, and scent. Housed within Sonne, a multi-brand experiential space in Bali, and Heveya, known for its organic latex mattresses and natural bedding, the installation brought together brands and artisans who see design as something to be lived.

Each day brought small moments of interaction. We designed the experience so visitors could engage their senses through different mediums, making each encounter a way to reconnect with the materials, flavors, and textures that shape our daily lives.

We invited Naughty Goat to guide guests through the layers of coffee—how aroma influences taste, how a single sip carries the work of many hands, and how something as familiar as coffee can still surprise us. Lana Daya and Mrs. Potter Bali led a session on table setting, where every detail mattered—the texture of linen, the weight of a plate, the balance of colors—turning an everyday ritual into something intentional.

For one day, we collaborated with Ranting Florist on their pop-up bouquets, part of our Art of the Senses experience, which explores shape, texture, and color through flowers. Of course, no gathering would be complete without a moment to slow down. Karusotju brought their arak, a drink deeply tied to tradition, offering guests a quiet pause to appreciate its warmth, depth, and the stories it holds.

By the end of the weekend, we realized the importance of these experiences—not just as moments of enjoyment but as a way to ground ourselves, reconnect with our senses, and find meaning in our interactions with the world. Thank you to JCK, Sonne, and Heveya for giving us this platform to explore how design shapes the way we gather, move, and connect. We hope these conversations continue at JCK in the years to come.
