Malya

Malya is a humble yet gracious chair that came from explorations of treating rattan in simple yet new ways to exert the characteristics of the natural materials in use. Two rattan beams simply arranged side by side with the tops bend and bow open gently forming a blooming crown-like structure. Endowing an unassuming presence to support a meaningful dining experience.

Through Malya humbleness we invite people to overcome a preconception of simplicity equals lack of substance and its values thereof. On the contrary, Malya is able to elevate the value of the object and its environment at once.

While still holding the same essence of simplicity like the Malya dining chair, we designed the lounge chair version in a more cocooning way than opening for the purpose of providing refuge. Vertical rattan beams encircle the sitter in the shape of a flower bud as if it contains something precious. Its high back structure tightly tied to each other will keep thoughts of comfort safe within the seat.
