Ndare

Ndare is a furniture collection serves as a reminder that there is a complex relationship between the crafter, the environment, and culture—a wisdom often overlooked by modern society, one that we humbly find and collectively gather as we collaborate with HANDEP and the weavers of Gunung Purei, Central Kalimantan. 

Derived from Dayak Ngaju’s word that means "menganyam" or "weaving," Ndare explores what is deeply rooted in the act of weaving. The beauty of this collection lies not only in its designs but also in the essence of each weaver's unique identity—with their sacred responsibility and knowledge infused into every piece. These collectible pieces go beyond mere utility; they weave together pride, creativity, and purpose, inviting people to appreciate the connection between creator and creation.

HANDEP is a leading social enterprise and sustainable brand in Indonesia that works with indigenous artisans and smallholders in Central Kalimantan to create an alternative sustainable village economy that aligns with ancestral wisdom through local resources. As a response to the exponential development of the extractive industry in Central Kalimantan that continuously causes deforestation and the eviction of Indigenous people from their ancestral lands, Handep was born to help reconnect our fellow Dayak people to their rich lands and forests, enabling people to sustain their local resources. Currently, HANDEP is working with more than 200 artisans from partner villages across Indonesia in Central Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, Bali, and Banten.
