We Are Officially Opening Our Doors to the Public!
Following years of crafting pieces as a way to reconnect with our roots, we are delighted to share an exciting milestone in our journey—the opening of AlvinT Gallery at Indonesia Design District (IDD), North Jakarta. At the heart of this new venture lies a vision to create a sensory spatial environment, one that offers a fresh perspective on the essence of cultural identity and values through design.
The gallery’s first exhibition, entitled "People Place Culture: The Bond That Crafts Meaning," highlights the intimate and inseparable bond between humans—people—and their environments—a place—that makes up culture and identity. The exhibition encapsulates our contemplation and reflection on the art of craft and the practice of making.
Through “People Place Culture,” visitors will be taken on a transformative self-discovery journey through three compelling sections.
Dahan, where people will encounter alvinT's limited handcrafted rattan sculptural bench, which underscores the significance of understanding and respecting the material's origin in the art of crafting;
Ndare, an exquisite furniture collection created in collaboration with HANDEP. These intricate pieces of art convey the captivating narrative and skill of indigenous Dayak weavers from Central Kalimantan. This collection celebrates the profound interdependence between artisans and their environment.
And lastly, On Rattan, a multi-sensorial journey about rattan farming practices exhibited in collaboration with SARAS. This exhibit invites you to explore the lives, habitat, and ecosystem of rattan. Together, we aim to address the systemic issues of the industry, ensuring a harmonious coexistence with both nature and local farmers.
We are immensely grateful for your continued support, and we look forward to welcoming you to the AlvinT Gallery at Indonesia Design District. Together, let us embark on a journey of discovery, celebrating the rich tapestry of culture, craft, and identity.
